The 16th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR analyzes the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and the cultural/physical/social/urban context in contemporary times, through two main sections: LIQUID ROOMS and FUTURE LANDSCAPES

LIQUID ROOMS analyzes the hidden parts of our identities and the human body as a changing communication system through an immersive experience inside the complex labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES explores the concept of ‘borders‘ and the structures between body, mind, and soul, the human identity and the city, the space and the ground.

Patricia Rotondaro opened the exhibition with the performance “Un diálogo con las Sombras” – “A dialogue with the shadows”. In the light/dark duality, the parts of our identity that hurt and frighten us are pushed into a dark zone of our consciousness, a zone we avoid, in order to live in the stillness of light. The connection between body and space was explored also through the live performance by Silvia Almeida who staged the 1 to 1 site-specific show, “From above – Do Alto”. The artist led visitors and artists hand in hand along a path studded with photographs, films, texts and sounds.

Located in the historical heart of Venice, Palazzo Bembo also welcomed many talented artists to analyze the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, the space and the ground. “Metamorphic dreams” by Rohn Meijer, for example, is the result of a deliberate and aesthetic deconstruction: although destroyed, Rohn’s photographs are a possible source of beauty and acquire an aura of non-finiteness, in an ongoing mutation.

Flavio Borrelli’s art is expressed through different techniques and purposes, upholding the importance of craftsmanship in creative processes and enriching a constant exchange between art and architecture. Similarly, the Italian artist Andrea Cartabia, in art Mr. Yeah, creates handcrafted wooden supports according to a ‘fluidist’ style defined by the artist himself, born from the idea of anti-conformist, derived from the boredom of always observing canvases relegated to a standard geometric condition, perfect and clean as the square and the rectangle, encountering curved lines in exceptional cases of circles and ovals. Design objects signed by the Italian brand Officinanove set the tone for the 16th edition of Venice International Art Fair: lamps and furniture stimulate the desire for beauty and functionality in an ever-changing world.

The desire to explore geometry through still life lies at the heart of Alida Velea‘s “Geometric series”. The Romanian artist breaks down each element of the composition into the same geometric shape, giving the viewer a colourful image of the geometry that surrounds us, rendering light and shade in different shades of the same colour and conveying the feeling that beyond monotony and banality, there is colour. In the words of Ju Underwood: “Continuous reinvention of the process is an important element of my practice. I am focused on revealing obscured layers of human psychology that transcend the limitations of place, time, ethnic background, and gender”. Ju’s artistic practice examines the existential condition, particularly those sections of our psyche that are out of sight and intensely intimate.

To Ronald Bijleveld Aka Lukjansky The Painter, art is a language on its own, with its own dynamic, which the artist uses to achieve a personal experience and a spiritual journey, trying to convey intense emotion to the viewer. Heather Hauptman‘s art is infused with stories and creatures that manifest themselves in her drawings and embroideries. Drawing and embroidering on found objects at flea markets are her storytelling tools. Vincenzo Trazzera boosted our senses with “TOUCH”, tactile paintings with a three-dimensional effect that invites the viewer to touch the artwork – traditionally forbidden – leading to a sensory activation that unconsciously solicits memories and impressions.

During the exhibition, we had the pleasure to host WOMEN IN LOVE, a solo exhibition by Benedetta Paravia aka Princess Bee, Vice President and Ambassador of A.N.G.E.L.S. – National Association of Great Energies  Leading Solidarity – ONLUS, with the aim to raise public awareness on the issue of Female Genital Mutilation (clitoridectomy, excision and infibulation) in order to help put an end to this violence perpetrated on girls and young women, a violation of Human Rights (WHO 2008). During the event, stills from 7 NFT videos portraying 7 women were exhibited, under the photographic direction of Daniele Pedone. images of great emotional impact portraying the power of female nature in stark contrast to the violence of the crime of FGM.

OUR LOCATION

Palazzobembo 001 1

Palazzo Bembo, located in the historic district of San Marco, the heart of Venice, is available to host solo shows and group exhibitions of the most talented emerging and established artists, designers, and architects selected by our professional team among the numerous show participation requests.

Palazzo Bembo is one of the late Gothic Venetian buildings built in the right middle of the famous Canal Grande, a few meters from the renowned Rialto Bridge. Its name comes from the humanist and literary cardinal Pietro Bembo, known for the so-called “linguistic question” during the Italian XV century.

The facade of the building, with all its gothic pentafore, is as fascinating as the interior which is divided into three floors and characterized by large salons. The seventeenth-century staircase overlooks the internal courtyard that leads to the noble floor, where decorations are dating back to the same century, in Baroque style. The exhibition space, on the first floor, overlooks the Canal Grande and the Rialto Bridge, giving a suggestive view both day and night.
