The 5th Edition of ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR acted as a clear platform for the straightforward interchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals, and afforded artists and exhibitors the unique window of opportunity to share their work with an international audience of art professionals who strive to gain, promote and nurture the best talents in contemporary art. The exhibition explored the body-space relationship and the hybridity between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

MIXING IDENTITIES analyzed the innermost parts of our identities and their countless ways of expression, through an insightful experience into the enthralling universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES chiefly focused on the concept of edges and boundaries between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and earth, and transforms surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

The topics of the exhibition, MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES, were deepened by several artists and their differing outlooks, for example by the Swiss artist Esthi Koos: “The Gold Collection” symbolizes deeper self-knowledge, wisdom, physical, spiritual and emotional richness. Koos reveals the pursuit of forms, the distinctiveness of movements, the complexity of spirituality and the diverse range of possibilities of various expressive movements and postures. The exhibition theme was also portrayed by Maria Margherita Martinelli whose vibrant, richly saturated colors shed light on her conscious perceptions and dramatize deep memories of both physical and mental relaxation within unique paintings. The artist elicits a state of quietude that is simple and elegant with the use of natural paper textures, cool and earthy tones, which are combined with abstract and punctuated inkblots.

A creator of Chinese-inspired, brooding and soothing ink paintings, Nicole Tang‘s art is all about restraint and flux, letting the ink flow naturally and letting her know when and how much to control it; this contemplation on life shows that there is beauty in aloneness, in silence. The energies and stream of the ink create abstract forms that epitomize limitless existence. Bojko Jerman, from Slovenia, uses the technique of engraving to give his works of art a particular vibrancy, as the appearance of a given artworks depends on the direction and type of light, and is always changing. His art is distinctive, dynamic and never the same. The concept of the exhibition was developed by the photographic artistry of the New York-based fashion designer VV (Hanwei) Su, which in the “Pretty hurt” series, blends pleasure, sorrow and suffering, questioning why pain is so attractive and appealing.
