The word “canvas” was used for the first time in Italy in the 14th century and it has become the most common support medium for oil painting, replacing wooden panels. Over the centuries, the canvas’ meaning has changed, starting from paintings, through photographic and cinematographic film, exploring the human body, to the digital world. Canvas is the creatives’ common ground, on which they can express themselves. We invite all the artists to share their personal artistic research through any kind of media, from painting to sculptures and installation, from photography to video art and live performance.

VISIONS aims to explore all different facets of the social, physical and cultural identities of our contemporary society. Every day we deal with a multitude of different identities and roles: we face public life creating and adapting our social identities, our body and aesthetic tastes modify and are modified by our physical and sexual identities, our whole being evolves as well as contemporary cultures and modern cities do in order to create new compound and exchange possibilities for new “liquid identities” in “liquid cities“.

VISIONS‘ theme invited artists to explore the intricate and ever-changing landscape of contemporary identities. Among them, Robert Falcone‘s works reflected a unique blend of mediums and influences, evolving in a testament to the profound connection between art and the human experience. In his series, “Le Finestre di Burano,” the artist showcased his deep fascination with the concept of “Joile Laide,” the celebration of beauty found in the unconventional, inspired by the captivating decay and decadence of the colorful facades on the Venetian island of Burano and inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and find beauty in the overlooked and weathered aspects of life.

Palida Georgoulakou embodied this theme during a lifelong journey, driven by an insatiable passion for artistic creation: her works speak volumes about her commitment to self-expression and the boundless potential of artistic exploration. Palida enjoys the process of creation by trying different mediums, techniques, and styles, as she seeks to depict her experiences, memories, feelings, dreams, and expectations on canvas. Her visual narrations reflect the drama and the conflicts of everyday life under a sensitive, unusual, and bold perspective. The Belgian photographer and artist Aliénor Bereder gave her own perspective on the theme through her force of creativity and exploring the limits, playing with colors, objects, and situations. Her artistic practice is a testament to the transformative power of embracing one’s passions and pursuing them with unbridled enthusiasm.

London’s diverse and dynamic urban landscape, its multicultural society, and its global influence in the art world made it a perfect venue for VISIONS, providing both inspiration and a suitable platform for artists to connect with a global audience. Between them, Shivani Radia shared her conduit for her boundless creativity’s artistic experience. Inspired by the wonders of nature, her art invited viewers to embrace their inner strength, encouraging viewers to dream bigger and aspire to become the best versions of themselves. Thanks to her female-centered abstract portraits, empowerment, and self-discovery intertwine, forming a harmonious tapestry that beckons viewers to embark on their own journeys of personal growth.
