SENSES is an International Art Fair that showcases collective and solo projects by leading and emerging international artists. The 2023 edition represents a dynamic forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals.
The concept of MIXING IDENTITIES is based on the reconstruction of new identities: their transformation is essential to face the changes of the contemporary world. The process of building ourselves passes through the continuous relations with other people’s identities and the identities of communities, cultures and societies. The event focuses on the human body as a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality, a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression. We invited artists to analyze the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness.
In line with this theme, Dobieslaw Gala‘s artistic poetry revolved around the impact of human activity on the natural world. The relief compositions, inspired by the transient nature of memory, sought to illustrate how moments of presence, events, and activities blur across material and spiritual realms. They depict remote Earthly places where mysterious phenomena occur, resulting in the alteration of nature. Also, the Hungarian artist Nikoletta Molnár contributed to enriching the infinite possibilities of this theme through her artworks, characterized by her emotional depth and reflecting specific feelings and periods of her life: for Nikoletta, creating art serves as a form of therapy, as she continues to work on her paintings until she feels they are complete, making her artistic journey a sort of emotional path.
Identities are viewed as dynamic and evolving systems, adapting to the evolving contemporary society. Luca Fondi, a talented self-taught artist, shares a fascination with transformation from a similar point of view, where elements evolve from one state to another. He skillfully combined symbolism and imagery to convey intricate narratives, infusing his pieces with a sense of dynamism, and inviting viewers to embark on a journey of introspection and discovery, ultimately leaving them with a sense of wonder and fascination.
Cristina Adria‘s artistic work, deeply influenced by her fascination with quantum physics, shared a profound connection with the exploration of MIXING IDENTITIES, with their transformation and complexity. This common thread underscored the notion that identities, like her artistic creations, are fluid and dynamic: exploring various artistic media and utilizing different textures with varying levels of viscosity and fluidity, her works revolved around finding a delicate balance between controlling and embracing the unpredictable nature of matter.
The event was further enriched by Cristina Corvino‘s participation in her solo exhibition “Arte Conservativa”. Her contribution was a testament to her innovative artistic approach and her profound connection to the world of restoration and classical art. With a background that blends skills in painting, architecture, and restoration, Corvino has developed a unique style where restoration itself becomes a form of art. The location of Medina Art Gallery, situated in one of the world’s most historical cities, provided a fitting backdrop where ancient and contemporary worlds could harmoniously interact. Through her work, Corvino demonstrated her ability to not only preserve the spirit of classical art but also reinterpret it in a modern context, breathing new life into ancient treasures, simplifying the understanding of the classical world while merging the ancient and the modern to create unique and contemporary masterpieces.
