Serbian duo Sobekcis has completed a 17.3-by-10.5-metre mural in central Valence, France, for the 2026 edition of Walls&Love. Painted at 1 rue Juiverie, close to the Hôtel de Ville, the large-scale composition joins the festival’s programme of permanent murals across the city.
The work is built from a shifting arrangement of black-and-white forms cut through with bright colour. Rather than sitting apart from its setting, the mural takes its structure from the architecture around it: Sobekcis describes the composition as beginning with unconscious gestures, then carefully arranging them in response to the neighbouring lines, angles and built forms. The pared-back monochrome passages establish a graphic framework, while the coloured planes bring depth and contrast against the façade and streetscape.
Walls&Love listed Sobekcis among its four major mural artists for 2026, with the duo scheduled to work on rue Juiverie from August 28 to September 3. The fourth edition of the Valence festival ran from August 22 to September 13, bringing permanent and temporary works to several parts of the city. Sobekcis thanked Vincent, Jerc, Alizée and Delphine for their organisation and trust, as well as residents of the neighbourhood for their hospitality and response to the painting. The result is an assertive abstraction whose irregular geometries hold the wall in conversation with the city around it.
