“try, take time – take time, try” by Photographer Jesse Ly

A body of work concerning the dualities of care and labour by lens-based artist Jesse Ly. Ly holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History and a certificate in Critical Visions from the University of Cincinnati’s college of DAAP. They are currently working as the Graphic Design and Photography Media Facilities Coordinator for Art & Design at the University of Dayton. “try, take time – take time, try” is a collection of developing works compiling photographic, sculptural, and installation approaches. The works consider the aspects of tenderness, rigidity, and rage needed to cause change as well as the act of setting affirmations, safe keeping, protection, and preparedness:

“One’s field of view exists and transcends multitudes—blending degrees of needed softness and conviction. Encapsulating this disparateness delves into the functionality of these simultaneously differing but similar emotions and approaches. The work calls upon these methods of making to look into and allude to how one can harness the needed firmness to create direction with the leniency and care needed to hold space for compassion.”
