“The Voice That Does Not Ring” by Photographer Ben Dickey

A series examining notions of solitude, despair, loss, and temporality by Toronto-based photographer Ben Dickey. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, Dickey has long been interested in legacies of trauma and how that relates to social structures of alienation. His current project is inspired by these histories. “The Voice That Does Not Ring” is an exploration of colonized and wild spaces, abandoned locals, and collaborative portraiture. While attending to the precarity of such desperate and isolating feelings, Dickey’s work also captures the shared intimacy experienced in conditions of mass uncertainty and upheaval:

“In a global climate faced with ecological implosion, and immense social unease, it is my desire to address expressions of collapse, despair, and grief on a level that is at once personal and universal.”
