ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with ACIT Venice – Italian-German Cultural Association, is pleased to announce the open call for HYBRID IDENTITIES, first appointment of BORDERS ART FAIR 2023, that will take place in Venice at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello (click here to learn more about this venue) from May 12 to May 30, 2023, and in other prestigious venues and historical buildings, during the same period of the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture.
The last edition of BORDERS ART FAIR took place in Venice in 2021, presenting a great selection of more than 500 art and architecture works realized by 300 artists and architects, coming from more than 40 countries. The 2023 edition will provide artists and exhibitors with the unique opportunity to present their works to an international audience of professionals as curators, gallerists, collectors, editors and publishers who seek to acquire, publish and encourage the best contemporary art talents.
The festival focuses on the concept of “borders”, between the soul and the body, the human being and the urban space, the city and the ground. The festival analyzes the idea of human and urban borders, how people live them and how they are modified in contemporary society. Every human being lives in a world in which the limits and the borders shape their attitudes and behaviours, limiting freedom and creating a sense of alienation. The human being reacts by breaking the limits and finding a new way of life. We imagine a world of “liquid cities”, where differences create new possibilities instead of being social barriers.
Humankind coexists at a distance to stay closer: the new invisible borders are creating new ways of living everyday life, new human connections, and re-thinking common spaces and entire cities.
This year on May 19, 2023, we are glad to host Hybrid Futures – Artificial Intelligence and Architecture, a panel dedicated to artificial intelligence. Tim Fu, Architectural Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects, Lev Libeskind, Creative Director at Libeskind Studio Design and Luca Curci, Founder of Luca Curci Architects, together with other panellists and guests, will provide a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of technology and human identity, offering deep insights into how AI is shaping the awareness of self and society and into the ethical, cultural, and philosophical implications of it. By examining these complex and multifaceted issues, the panel will provide a better understanding of the potential of AI, encouraging reflections and dialogues around the role of technology in shaping our shared future.
On the same day, we are pleased to present VENICE EXPERIMENTAL Video and Performing Art Festival 2023, a one-night event of video and performance art and architecture, where artists are invited to analyze the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness.
Artists and architects interested in taking part in our shows are free to be sponsored and supported by institutions, organizations, governments, and their representatives; the logos of their sponsors will be included in all the communication (digital and print) of the events. Artists and architects are free to take part in one or more events. The concept of HYBRID IDENTITIES explores the complexities of human identity and the ways in which cultural and ethnic background shape our being, creating a unique blend of different influences that form our identity. We all deal with multiple identities and roles in our everyday lives, which are guided by different social, physical, and cultural factors: we create and adapt our identities based on the situations we find ourselves in, and they evolve and change as we interact with contemporary cultures and modern cities. These changes will create new possibilities which will lead to new and unique identities.
We invite artists and architects to express their own hybrid identities through their work to explore and express the complexities and celebrate the diversity of human experience and the ways in which it contributes to the creation of new identities.
BORDERS ART FAIR consists of 3 main events: HYBRID IDENTITIES, SECRET SPACES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES. We are now selecting artists for:

Artists and architects are free to take part in one or more events. To take part in the selection fill out the form below
The participation includes the following services
– exhibition space dedicated to the artist’s works
– assisting with customs formalities, international shipping and local transport
– assisting in finding accommodation
– the design and printing of invitation cards, posters
– the global and local press office, publicity, press, banners, totem, etc.
– the realization of the exhibition website and dedicated press releases
– mounting and dismounting of the exhibition
– exhibitions opening event with drinks and food
– a dedicated interview published on ITSLIQUID website and spread on our social networks
– providing services and drinks for small meetings at the exhibition places for invited guests
– a printed catalogue that will include all the participants

OUR LOCATION
Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello is one of the most known palaces of the Renaissance in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to the 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautiful private garden on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Masters’ frescoes and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here, make Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.
Today the building is managed by ACIT Venice – the Italian-German Cultural Association – which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT unceasing cultural activity, Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello has nowadays frequent collaborations with the Goethe Institute and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in the 58th Venice Biennale with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion. ITSLIQUID Group already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
