The 6th edition of LONDON CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR represented a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair featured paintings, sculptures, photography art, installations, video art and live performance and focused on the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times.

Artists, architects and designers have been invited to be moved by the mystical energy of London and explore the connection between desires, needs and fears through rituals that bring people to alter, transform, and evolve their inner world.

The magical atmosphere of London was perfect for our selected artists, to display their works linked to the concept of the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times. Indeed, J CG presented four marker pens and fine liner drawings from his “Impressions of others series”; these works were prompted by the idea of a city, like London, missing the usual inhabitants during recent Covid lockdowns.

Emily Combs, from the US, presented her photographs that showed the main subject of her artistic expression, linked to themes of death, identity, and the progression of time. The Renaissance concept of “Memento mori” is on the basis of her artworks: it means to remind the viewer that everything must come to an end, it is a symbol that embodies the unavoidable sense of time and how fleeting it can be. She was inspired to create a series based on this concept and remind herself to stay in the present as long as time may allow so they are a mixture of still lives and self-portraits to portray the intimacy with her own death.

The sculptures presented by Ingrid Houchin arise from the juxtaposition between the feminine and masculine energetic flow. The flowing structures she created aim to explore our deepest feelings whilst also leaving room for interpretation and a longing for deeper dialogue and connection. These pieces experienced a natural distortion in the firing process and then were completed in a very meditative process through which she highlighted their alternations from the intended original thanks to Kintsugi, a 400-year-old Japanese technique. This stemmed from her belief that every flaw is inherently beautiful and provides a uniqueness that should be cherished.

Malena Heldmann is a multidisciplinary designer and art director. Her works, driven by her interest in complex human-centered and psychological themes, often challenge the collective understanding of contemporary society and mainstream consciousness. Thanks to the video and photographs she showed in LONDON CONTEMPORARY we can reflect on the metaphorical tale of a person’s stormy inner world – part reality, part dream – struggling with the widespread fear of not being good enough.

The 6th Edition of LONDON COMTEPORARY gave the opportunity to creatives to inspire and express themselves, through all kinds of art and have the power to transform the world.
