Tang Shuo is a Chinese artist currently living in Liverpool, UK. Drawing inspiration from his childhood in the village of Boulder Hill in southern China, his recent work is a journey through his memories of the people and stories he grew up with. “Boulder Hill is not just a physical place name, it is also the starting point of my current thoughts, behavior, and way of life,” he explains.
After moving to the UK in 2020, Shuo had to adapt to new environments with a new way of thinking, which led him to question the relationship between individuals and society. He explores this question through his painting practice, using himself as a medium to address themes of profession, nation, identity, and alienation.
Most of these works were on view in Shuo’s solo exhibition, “Boulder Creek,” at Ojiri Gallery in London. See more below!
