Since I can remember, expressing myself creatively has been a compelling force in my life. Whether knitting stuffed toys or crafting fairy houses as a child, I have always been in love with the process of discovery and surprise that is part of the artist’s experience.

Although I chose to study classical music over a degree in fine art, I kept coming back to those pens and paintbrushes.

“Intimacy” pen on paper, 40cm x 30cm

As I’ve grown older, my frown line has grown deeper. The demands and duties of family and motherhood gave me an excuse to bury my creative dreams. I reassured myself that “one day” in the future, I would have the time and space to create all that was on my heart to create.

I waited…and waited, until I learned that time itself is neutral and that my choices are powerful, whatever I may choose.

So, I gave myself the goal of creating a series of pen drawings. Pen and ink can be scary, because, at least in my experience, one can’t really fix mistakes. When the mark is made, it’s final. No endless retouching or overworking, just bold lines that make or break the artwork.

“Ferocious and Tender King” pen on paper, 40cm x 30cm

As a lover of Jesus, I will be forever fascinated by the beauty of God and his fingerprints found on creation. My pen series is a collection of animal drawings, accompanied by scripture and prophetic descriptions.

“Healed” pen on paper, 40cm x 30cm

The drawings themselves are quite simple, but the meaning behind each piece acts as a portal into the vast riches of heaven. My hope is that when people view my art, they have an encounter with their heavenly father.

“My Yoke is Easy” pen on paper, 40cm x 30cm

The drawings represent Biblical themes such as the love of God, the kingdom of heaven, Jesus as the king of heaven who chose to make his home within us, the finished work of the cross and the spirit of adoption.

I realize that the overtly Christian nature of my art may be off-putting for some. And I understand. Yet life is too short and too precious to be spent doing things merely out of duty or obligation.
